Laundry/Half Bath Makeover

while we're on the subject of bathrooms, i figured i'd share a makeover of my own. as i've mentioned before, our house was built in the early 80s and was not touched from that time until i got my hands on it. the first room we tackled was the laundry/half bath.

before:

the old bathroom featured a brown, off-center sink, a strangely placed mirror, even stranger artwork, rad (it is the 80s after all) half moon sconces, and particle board cabinetry (which by the way is used throughout the house in all of the bathrooms and the kitchen. yay.). the laundry area had rickety hinged louvered doors which can barely be seen at the bottom right corner of the photo. although with a 21st century sized washer and dryer they couldn't close. so things to keep? the flooring, which is simple terracotta tile, and the toilet.

great potential, but for me, the first thing this room was crying out for was some beadboard. so with the help of our contractor i went to work.

the new vanity mimics the beadboard on the drawer and door fronts. i decided on cambria quartz countertops in cambrian black which looks just like granite (in my opinion) but doesn't require the maintenance of most natural stones. the sconces and faucet are from pottery barn.

now onto the top half of the walls...something was missing. wallpaper. specifically, thibuat's mimosa in aqua. large scale to keep the room as open as possible but also light and bright as that little window doesn't let in a ton of light. et voila! (not the best pic ever, actually brighter in person):

moving to the laundry part of the room. the existing doors were out of the question without major modification so instead i bought a tension rod and 2 drapery panels from west elm for a really quick fix.

ahh, that's much better :) isn't she pretty or at least so much prettier?
