Project Update: Upstairs Playroom

to recap what i've said before: yes i realize that it sounds a little ridiculous to have an upstairs playroom and a downstairs playroom. however, since the boys share a bedroom, i decided to make the other bedroom, that one day one of them will occupy, a playroom. the two rooms also share a bathroom which is quite convenient.

this was my inspiration for the room:

here is what we were working with in the room before:

walls were green (same as our office) and not much else to say. and now:

from the door looking in

painting the walls a creamy white created the perfect backdrop and the ceiling is sometimes blue and sometimes gray depending on how the light hits it. there is a big open space in the middle to romp around and a little reading corner at the far end of the room. the chest of drawers stores some extra blankets, clothes to grow into, and of course a few special items of clothing that i'm saving. there is in fact a nice big closet that you can see to the left in the "before" shot but it houses some of mommy's sweaters and daddy's suits for now. :)

also the ikea bookshelf in high gloss gray is awesome. highly recommend!

from the door looking left

i really love how it turned out. i tried to think about what would work for now and also what would work for later when this room becomes a bedroom. all of the bigger ticket items like the furniture and the curtains (although they are from ikea and etsy so pretty budget friendly) will transition easily.

the details:

wall paint color: linen white, ben moore
ceiling paint color: hinting blue, sherwin williams (same as the color on the walls in the new nursery but be warned - it looks much grayer on the ceiling than on a wall)
bunting quilt, curtains, monogrammed pillows, and floor cushions: all etsy
chest of drawers: ikea
trunk: local find
rocking horse: pbk
race car: rh baby & child
little people chairs: pbk
chevron rug: calypso home (used to be in the entry in our old house)
cube bookshelf: ikea
gray and white stripe bins: container store
flags: land of nod

This is adorable - love the nautical theme, of course! Will you share the etsy seller you used?
