Peterssen Keller Architecture

hi folks! it's officially the last week of summer vacation here and i'm trying to slow down and take it all in with my almost-kindergarteners! also one of said almost-kindergarteners has been sick so i'm hoping this passes quickly and we get it out of the way before school starts. 😬

i came across the work of peterssen keller architects a while ago and filed it away but today seems like as good a day as any to share it! they're based in minneapolis and have built all kinds of houses from modern to traditional (check out their portfolio!). bottom line: it's all gorgeous!

Nantucket Homes AKA A Shingled Paradise

hi friends! the end of school is an utter whirlwind. and it was only preschool. i just felt wiped and needed to take some time to recoup from the chaos. my boys came home with approximately 15 lbs each of artwork and projects - and i thought there was a lot during the school year! i think emotionally too it took a toll as they're moving on from the place they've been since they were 18 months old. so now we're taking some time to relax in one of our favorite places ever, nantucket. this week on the blog i thought i'd dedicate my posts to this gorgeous island.

i'm kicking off the week with some good old fashioned eye candy in the way of nantucket real estate. we had planned (and even put the deposit down) to rent the same house again as last year but things fell through and it led me to scour the internet for 6 days straight (and maybe a tear or two!) before finding this year's gem. we feel very lucky!

more on this place later but for now feast your eyes on more amazing properties from ack! i took of a photo of this stunner last year and it never gets old.

we're supposed to be getting a surprise march snow storm on sunday so i'll just stare at these pics all weekend. WAH!!!

Californian New England Style Homes

i follow a couple of home builders in the newport beach area on instagram because it's always fun to see what they are doing with big budgets! yesterday this house popped up graystone custom builders' feed and it reminded me how much i love california's take on more traditional new england-style homes. the best of both worlds if you ask me!

Weekend Happenings

hi all! there are 2 more weeks of summer left. 2!! we're trying to make the most of it while starting to plan fall activities for the boys which is crazy to think about. how was your weekend? mine was quite productive actually which is rare. :) my super duper electrician, aka mr. r, obliged me and changed out our garage sconces. they were the final piece of the puzzle with all the exterior updates. we are officially done and it feels (and looks!) so good!

and i found them on amazon for under $100 each.

i also heard from the etsy seller who is making our coffee table (did you forget because i almost did) that it finally shipped.

if you follow me on instagram then you saw some progress on the basement! it's all painted (i think i mentioned here that i was painting it myself - i gave up) and the wallpaper is hung. i've started to hang some art but also really trying to keep some walls bare which is so hard for me! i want to follow the less is more school of thought although with all of the toys down there, the last thing it looks is bare!!

a little while ago a girl contacted me out of the blue asking about our bedroom furniture and where we got some of the pieces because she was slowly re-creating the same room in her place. maybe sounds a little creepy/single white female but i was actually flattered. she had seen my room on another blog and loved it. and since i have been dreaming up a new bedroom scheme, it felt like fate. plus she lives in the boston area! so she came yesterday and bought our upholstered bench and mirrors.

p.s. forgot to give a shout out to JH on the post about painted interior doors! mwah! oh and i've narrowed it down to two possible doors :)

Shutters!!!

YOU GUYS!! our shutters were finally installed yesterday and o.m.g. i'm so in love. i was getting a little nervous about the whole thing - i think mostly because it was taking so long so i had a lot of time to stew. but it is the best feeling to see them installed and we absolutely love the way it turned out.

this is the last piece in the string of exterior updates. first we switched up the lighting and then work on the landscaping. so here's the before...

we had crazy weather yesterday - some of the pics i took have clear blue skies and some are completely cloudy and overcast. anyway, the exterior updates we've made on our home are maybe the most over-shared of all time ;) so thanks for staying with me.
