Fall Home: Textures and Neutrals

i'm really feeling lots of warm neutrals and textures for fall this year and there is really no better place to find both of those things than at serena & lily. they're having a friends and family sale where everything is 20% off (with code HOMELOVE) so i'm sharing my picks! plus a few people on instagram asked - ask and you shall receive. :)

i've used the side table on the bottom right and the raffia is beautiful. i'm also using the solid pillow and the sham coming up and have the coffee table on order for another client. just can't go wrong here. happy hump day and happy shopping!

The Look For Less

i'm excited to share today "the look for less" at a surprising source! y'all KNOW i love me some serena & lily & anthropologie but their pieces aren't always in everyone's budget. i was shocked to find some great pieces at great prices in the grandin road catalog. i'll admit that i rarely thumb through their catalog when it comes - it usually heads straight to the recycling bin - but something caught my eye this time that made me keep it. so let's get to it...

serena & lily's ryder rug on the left and grandin road's barstow rug on the right.

serena & lily's venice chair on the left and grandin road's sairah chair on the right.

kerry cassill quilt on the left and grandin road's adeleine duvet on the right.

serena & lily's avalon daybed (also available at anthropologie) on top and grandin road's paloma bench on the bottom.

The Look For Less

where do i begin? definitely had no intention of not blogging for a week (more maybe?). i've been insanely busy with clients, clients and more clients which i am truly happy and excited about! but i have exactly 4 hours of free time 4 mornings a week to meet with clients or you know, GSD like grocery shop, so that leaves night time to work on designs, email clients, and oh yeah catch up with my husband. and speaking of that very lovely man, he's been away for 4 out of the last five nights! my mom came and helped which was wonderful but then all hell broke loose with my little finn and long story short, he's likely getting a cast today on his left arm. :| so yeah, blogging fell off!

today i have to share a version of the look for less or high/low or whatever you want to call it! i had ordered a new desk for the office (our current desk is too small) and it came and it was all wrong plus was damaged. and i kind of knew it wasn't going to be right but have seen it in so many IG pics where it looks so pretty that i had to try. always go with your gut and mine had been telling me to get a simple white parsons table. i wanted a table instead of a desk because i wanted it to be deeper and wide than your average desk. little trick i love! anyway, i ordered the west elm version during their labor day sale. it was on major back order - like 6 months - so i started looking around for another option and voila! the felix table from overstock.

west elm

overstock

it was easy to put together and it's totally sturdy. the reviews were right on although i was a little nervous about how it would be packaged but it was so well protected and came in perfect shape. and btw the west elm version is now only available in brown so really good thing this other option exists!

the overstock table would be too small to be a legit dining table but i can see it as a desk (obviously), a kids play/homework table, even a console table if you have the space.

Don't Call It A Comeback

oh LL i'll always love you. though fairly sure he wasn't talking about rattan furniture like i am. i'm seeing such great rattan options lately that don't scream 1970! my advice is to pair rattan with clean, sleek pieces and light, airy palettes to ensure things don't get too groovy. it works great in a coastal setting too.

my current favorite example has to be the hanging chair fad. they're not right for everyone but i love the cool casual vibe they give off.

etsy has some great vintage options (and some really bad stuff too!). these would be great with a coat of white paint and a fun cushion at a girl's desk.

a couple of side tables from urban outfitters (top // bottom)

a chair and ottoman a la franco albini from anthropologie.

both serena & lily and anthropologie carry this day bed.

and a more affordable option from urban outfitters.

the bed version is awesome too (available at anthrpologie).

amber interiors KILLED it with this room. i mean really.

so what do you think? are you down with the rattan?

Office Inspiration

today i'm officially into my late 30s. it freaks me out, not gonna lie. i feel about 25 in my mind though so i'll just keep pretending i'm not old! this year for my birthday i got a...DESK CHAIR!!! so exciting. ;) but seriously i had been eyeing it for a while and a friend of mine has it and once i saw it i couldn't get it out of my mind. maybe most importantly mr. r liked it and when that happens we better jump on it fast. thanks mom and dad for the cash money so i could spend it on the desk chair of my dreams.

and while i'm at it, i thought i'd add it to a little design board i've been working on. this design will probably change 500 more times before any of this really comes to fruition (and who knows when that will be) but see how the chair fits right in?! baby steps!

Leather Kick

i'm on a serious leather kick lately! i already talked here about leather pulls and how i'm a big fan. i also had some leather pillows made for our living room and they are one of the most asked about things on my instagram feed! (i had them made on etsy but i can't find the seller any longer unfortunately)

something as simple as a magazine rack or file holder can be unexpected and add that little bit of warmth and texture! how cool are these from anthropologie?

to all of my mid century modern-loving friends - are you aware that west elm is currently hawking a leather front cabinet?? i wasn't either until a couple of days ago. all of this wood, brass, and leather comes in two sizes.

my favorite, go-anywhere, leather chair is actually from crate and barrel! unfortunately it's not exactly inexpensive but, swoon.

i also have major love for this wood and leather table. i have it in our family room right now but could see it going so many places!

these leather baskets are so pretty.

other great uses - counter stools, lighting, and benches. any favorites?

New Favs From West Elm

happy new year y'all!! and also happy back to school, even if it is just preschool, i'll take it!!we need our routine back although i'm not looking forward to waking up the babes early (yes i have those annoying kids that sleep in. #sorrynotsorry ;)

another reason to love the new year is that stores release their new collections and so far 2016 is looking good! west elm is always a go-to for me for clients and for my own home. i love seeing their new releases and here are some of my current favorites.

a pretty flush mount!! these words so rarely go together so when i see a flush mount that is this nice to look at, i get really excited!

this mod chandelier. a little jonathan adler esque and at a great price.

this little nightstand would be perfect for a guest room or a kids room.

leather and wood and brass tacks.

a big old round mirror. perfect.

i'm sure there's more. this is as far as i got ;)

Customize It!

so many things on my little brain and no time to get it all out! let's see...i went and visited a client this weekend and her apartment is looking adorable. i just need to download the pics so i can share - tomorrow!! also we switched our furniture around in the family room now that the tv is above the fireplace and off the left wall and we're loving the change. in fact we're loving the whole house i have to say! we ordered some kitchen chairs after much back and forth. i'm excited for them to get here because we will also be retiring our high chairs (after 4 good years of service - highly recommend the oxo sprout) and moving to boosters! oh did anyone succumb to the one day 25% off at serena & lily monday? i helped a client buy some fabric for a project and i got some sheets. you know you're old when sheets excite you!

i was browsing on ballard designs for another client and saw that they now offer greater customization options on some of their upholstered chairs. i have long wondered why they didn't offer something like that before. i changed out the welting on some ballard chairs a few years ago (see this post) because you couldn't do contrast welt. but at least now they offer it now! a couple of chairs that i quickly created on the site...

fun for a traditional dining room or to add a little tradition to a more modern space. anyone remember this space from lonny mag like four years ago?

photo cred: patrick cline

still a goodie! happy thursday :)
