Wishing For Wishbones

how was the weekend? i had no motivation to get a post done for yesterday. not gonna lie! but today's a new day. :) a little while ago i posted about dining room chair options and i'm still leaning toward the wishbone style. of course my better half balked at them claiming they're "too modern" so i'm out to round up some spaces that show how versatile they can be!

studio mcgee recently revealed their latest project and would you look at that! oh and yeah, it's pretty much perfect.

becki owens' gorgeous work:

via design milk. this is west elm's version so slightly different but still gives a very similar look.

design source unknown (tell me if you know!) and i love that table too!

Kitchen Chair Options

it's like 90 degrees here! not complaining :) but with the humidity i sweat through like 3 shirts a day. tmi? oh and tgif!!

ok today's topic! i've been thinking about what chairs we'll want to get once we're ready for a new kitchen table. unfortunately stanley (who is now 8 months!) destroyed two of our four current chairs and since we really should have 6 total, starting form scratch makes the most sense. so i rounded up some options - some more realistic than others. mostly i'm just excited that i finally took the time to learn polyvore and can now create big girl design boards! doesn't this look 100 times better than those picasa boards?? only took me 5 years :)

kitchen chair options

1. wisteria. these are awesome but not sure upholstery would work in a house with two toddlers! fyi - they're 30% off right now!

2. serena & lily. i could kill for a set of these chairs but the cost might be too prohibitive. i don't want to be worrying all the time.

3. domino. this is a top contender. i love the wishbone shape and the seat looks reasonably comfortable.

4. west elm. i love these ones but i can't decide if the seat looks all that comfortable. like if you're wearing shorts or if you have little legs, your legs would have the same pattern as the chair pressed in!

5. domino. i think you get what you pay for and these look nice but i wonder about the longevity.

6. lulu & georgia. a knock off the original eames chair but same goes for these as #5.

what are your favorites? what else that's not on this list?

Modern Wing Chair

thanks so much for the emails and texts in support of my decision! i hope you continue coming back here because i'm bound to break the rules at least once (just kidding. sort of. actually if i want to stay married then i'm definitely kidding!). but yeah, don't abandon me!

on to the good stuff and one of those things that was already "in the works." :) mention the words wing chair and people sometimes automatically think of their parents' or grandparents' gross old chair!

left via spruce austin, right via all things thrifty

but today there are so many versions of wing chairs - modern and traditional - they are a must have in any house and so versatile. even the two above reupholstered and cleaned up would be great! we have three different style of wing chairs in our house. one traditional style in the guest room:

a pair of modern style from mitchell + gold:

and now a kind of in-between style from ballard designs (which you already saw a sneak peek of if you follow me on instagram!):

after we separated the boys' rooms, we needed a chair for the newly created bedroom. we have a pair of tan club chairs, one of which was in the original bedroom and the other was in our family room. so i stole the family room chair and moved it upstairs. for a replacement in the family room, i took advantage of a ballard 20% off sale and ordered the thurston wing back in navy twill with brass nailheads. love those nailheads!

the reviews were fantastic which made it easier to commit. and i'd say they're pretty accurate - the chair is insanely comfortable. it kind of wraps around you and holds you in. it's also deep and if i sit all the way back, my feet just barely touch the floor! (and i'm 5'5")  the only thing i wish is that it was little bit bigger. i think some of the reviews must have been from people with smaller spaces or apartments. it fits our space but we could have gone bigger. overall i'm really happy!

enjoy the weekend and email me some projects!!

My New Ugly Chairs

it became obvious last christmas that we need a few more chairs for the dining room. i love my green faux bamboo chairs and the round louis xvi too but in total we only have six seats. so i set out to find two fully upholstered host chairs - these are the ones at go at head and foot (foot?) of the table. but these chairs really don't get much use at all so i didn't want to spend much - not an easy ask for the type of chair i had in mind.

i scoured flash sale sights but i am always hesitant to buy chairs online when it's so important to be able to sit in them and see if they're comfortable. returning furniture is a nightmare. ugh. then i thought about craigslist and second hand stores for cheap options that could be reupholstered. good idea in theory but i don't have much extra time to pick through either of these places (though i wish i did!). and then one day i was strolling through homegoods - this is a recurring theme huh?! - and voila! a pair of chairs with a very interesting shape and hideous - and i mean fugly - fabric. it's purpley-gray and yellow.

but maybe just as good as the shape? they are comfortable! even the mister agreed. the legs are just ok but my plan is to redo them in navy linen and add a skirt to the bottom. we have lots of leggy chairs in the dining room, plus the table, so my theory is to mix in a couple of skirted chairs to balance out all of the legs. and i want to add the nailheads back, though what finish - nickel or aged brass?

i relocated the green bamboo chairs to either side of the coral credenza buffet? chest - i never know what to call that thing! they were meant to go there plus since i had stolen the blue and white pots for the entry, there was the just the right space ready and waiting!

back to the new chairs...in the end with the cost of the fabric and the upholstery charge, i may end up a little higher all in than i wanted but i will also have something that's custom for a fraction of what real custom would be. it's more fun this way than just buying something ready-made right? i might get around to it by next christmas :)

Shield Back Chairs

another "moment" i'm having lately (similar to my mid-century modern moment) is shield back chairs. i love them. i want them. but alas i do not have any need or place for them. these images will have to do.

New Counter Stool Idea

whadya think of this?

pondering them for my kitchen which is in major need of some color. there is room for about 4 stools total and we have 2 right now (that are traditional and boring and nothing like this. and they are discontinued so i can't get 2 more anyway). plus also the counter bench which layla grayce has promised me will be here soon. only about 4 weeks late!

Louis Ghost Chair

it was the day of my birth yesterday 33 years ago but i'm realizing birthdays aren't quite the same with kiddos around! wouldn't have it any other way but i am sorry for not posting! back at it today...this chair is "old" in the design world but i've had a long-time obsession with kartell's louis ghost chair. the most classic shape in a super modern material and it totally works. i've said it before but opposites attract!

i have a place for it in our new house and finally decided to take the plunge. oh i found it on a joss & main sale. :) here it is in action...

Cute Chairs

i saw these chairs at shades of light and they just made me smile!

this cafe style is so popular - i'm sure you can find some just like them and paint them yourself if so inclined. remember my chair painting project? :)

Clover Stool

i saw this adorable little stool on joss and main and by the time i decided it needed to be mine, which was not very long, it sold out. isn't it so cute?

imagine it recovered in a fun fabric. luckily i found that it can be had at a variety of online retailers. what did we do before google again?

Barstools

i have barstools, well counter stools, on my mind. my current fav is this one from wisteria:

i like both finishes too - what do you think about mixing them together?
